After graduating with a degree in Petroleum Engineering I was able to experience firsthand some of the work opportunities in the field. Soon after, I was hired to work in the operations department for a small company in the United States and that is when I realized I needed some more tools. I started looking for possible master’s degrees but I was leaning into Engineering Management. My friends and colleagues recommended the University of Arkansas, and after discussing with the careers advisors we came to the conclusion that Operations Management was the right degree for me, and I am so glad I choose this path.

I learned concepts I was always interested in, for example, Project Management, and Advanced Project Management,  where Prof. Greg Hutto made sure we had all the tools needed and made the live classes fun and full of real stories from the field. Learning from people with diverse and extensive experience is a luxury. I was able to obtain my Certificate in Project management and Certificate in Lean Six Sigma in parallel with my master’s degree.

Thanks to the MSOM program at the University of Arkansas, I was able to speed up my career development and obtain a position in Amazon on their Pathways Operations Management Program, a five-year Operations Leadership Development Program designed to rapidly develop talented Masters-level graduates with the skills they need to be Amazon General Managers and Directors, an amazing opportunity that would not be possible without my master’s degree.
