I applied to the Master of Science in Operations Management (MSOM) program because I liked the more targeted and specific courses than used in an MBA. These specialized courses like Operations Management, Advanced Project Management, Economic Decision Making, and Finance for Operations Managers better prepared me for project and operations positions than a generalized business degree. Moreover, the MSOM program allowed for in-state tuition even though I am a North Carolina resident which greatly lowered total costs.
The information learned in Introduction to Project Management and Advanced Project Management was used to successfully complete my Project Management Professional (PMP) certification with minimal additional preparation, and I am still making use of this information today while actively pursuing my Agile Practitioner (ACP) certification.
Lastly, I greatly enjoyed Economic Decision Making because the techniques and lessons in inflation, interest rates, and depreciation have been useful in my own personal finances. The MSOM program will continue to be useful as I pursue my DBA at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
