I had been contemplating several continuous education options while working as an Operations Manager in the Supply Chain industry when I was informed about the Masters of Operations Management (MSOM) program by a University of Arkansas staff member. With the increase in demand for industry certifications, I was very attracted to the opportunity to earn a Graduate Certificate in Project Management and Lean Six Sigma in concurrence with the Operations Management Master’s Degree. I was also attracted to the flexibility of a virtual graduate program. (In the duration of the program, I have relocated to a different state, switched careers, and started my own business without altering my expected graduation date.)
The courses in the MSOM program are a perfect combination of business theory and technical application. The knowledge gained can be applied across several industries and the tools you use are directly applicable within the workplace. For example, I was able to immediately utilize the project management and engineering tools in my role as an operations manager and business owner.
In 2022, I will be launching my private bookkeeping firm, in which I will be offering bookkeeping services and operations management advisory services to small business owners. At first glance, one may be confused as to how bookkeeping and operations management could coincide into a lucrative business model. However, through extensive market research and feedback from several clients, I have found that my background in Operations Management has provided a unique competitive advantage. Small business owners value my background in operations because I am able to teach them how to use the accurate financial reports I create to make strategic business decisions. This program has proven to be invaluable in my professional career.
