I had previously completed one year of MBA study when an advisory issue made me realize that the traditional business-major path was not something I aspired to. After countless hours of research and acceptances into some great schools, I settled on the MSOM program at the University of Arkansas. I knew a STEM program would challenge me and broaden my perspectives concerning the operations of any organization, regardless of the type. The workload was intense, and my expectations were exceeded!
The professors were knowledgeable about multiple disciplines within the program and provided excellent examples of their own experiences within various industries. Further, they willingly offered advice and guidance on how to effectively transition between courses and successfully complete the Comprehensive Exam. Their care level and commitment to each student’s success is a bonus. Sheila Vaughn (my Advisor) was the consummate professional and promptly ensured my questions were answered.
My favorite classes were Advanced Project Management, Strategic Management and Quality Management because the transition of concepts learned to real-life implementation was relatively seamless. As an audit and risk professional, I’m always concerned with offering insight to Management and providing recommendations that will improve operational efficiency, reduce waste, and create synergy across multiple functions within an organization for future sustainability and growth. This program undoubtedly ensured I had the knowledge, skills, and tools necessary to effectively foster positive change within my organization.
