Kylie Delgros
I applied to the MSOM program because the program has a great balance of technical and management-based courses. I spoke to previous students of the program (with widely different undergraduate degrees) and they had nothing but good things to say about it, and from there I was sold.
The courses I found the most useful to my current career were the Lean Six Sigma course and the Strategic Management course. I am often called on as our technical expert when we have issues on our bottling lines. The quicker I can find true root cause of issues the better, and the Lean Six Sigma course gave me a lot of tools and processes to solve problems quickly and correctly. I also really enjoyed the Strategic Management course. It got me thinking more about the high-level goals of the company I work for and how my work fits in with that vision. That has been a powerful tool for me to utilize when presenting to management and when explaining changes to our shop floor employees. I worked full time during my journey with the MSOM program, taking 1 class each eight weeks, and I thought the courses were challenging without being unmanageable.
In the future I plan on continuing to utilize the skills I learned through the MSOM degree to make myself a more effective engineer and leader. It has already paid off in the form of a promotion and will continue to pay off throughout my career.
